Thereafter, he went on to rotating internship at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and residencies in psychiatry at Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Montefiore Hospital in New York and Bellevue Hospital in New York. Dr. Nunberg received advanced psychoanalytic training from New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute (NYPSI), of which he has been a member since 1970. NYPSI draws upon over one hundred years of tradition and innovation to address the challenges of the twenty-first century, in keeping with its mission: to promote excellence in the teaching, research, and provision of psychoanalytic treatment and the application of psychoanalytic principles in advisory, consultative, educational, and therapeutic services to the New York metropolitan community. Dr. Nunberg is also a member of the Faculty of the Psychoanalytic Training Program. Psychoanalysis is an intensive form of psychological treatment whose aim is to alleviate long-standing emotional and psychological problems by understanding and altering their root causes so as to create more satisfactory solutions to these ongoing difficulties. Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behaviour, cognition, and perceptions. A psychiatrist, like Dr. Nunberg, specializes in diagnosing the nature and extent of mental disorder.
