Dr. Hoffman is a trusted psychiatrist specializing in psychopharmacologic consultation, holistic medicine, chronic pain management, and forensic evaluation. Having been practicing in Staunton, Virginia since 1983, he is the Medical Director of Associated Mental Health Professionals, Inc.
As such, he works with children, adolescents and adults in an office setting and strives to provide state-of-the-art psychiatric, neurologic, and holistic consultation, evaluation, and treatment. He uses a comprehensive approach that focuses on achieving and maintaining a patient’s optimal mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
“Through the use of a detailed personal history, neuro-endocrine assessment, and nutritional evaluation, the patient and I identify problem areas. I use a holistic “approach” to treat the whole patient with medication, nutritional supplements, and other therapeutic interventions as indicated” expressed the doctor.
Delivering therapeutic care, Dr. Hoffman is a firm believer that mental illness is a symptom of underlying medical problems that involve imbalances in the neurochemistry of the brain, as well as hormone, endocrine, and nutritional deficiencies. He limits his practice to providing outpatient service and forensic evaluation while maintaining cooperative relationships with inpatient services that are available in the surrounding area.
Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Hoffman received his medical degree from Rush Medical College. He did most of his residency at Rush Presyberian – St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, and completed his training at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Thereafter, he worked as the Director of Psychiatric Services at the Rockbridge Mental Health Clinic in Lexington, Virginia from 1983 to 1985, and as the Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatric Services at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Virginia (formerly King’s Daughters Hospital) from 1983 until his retirement from inpatient practice in 1998.
With over four decades of experience in his field, Dr. Hoffman is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists. He is also board-certified in integrative holistic medicine.
