Get to know Cardiac Electrophysiologist Dr. Brian D. Miller, who serves patients in Illinois.

Dr. Miller is a highly qualified cardiac electrophysiologist with triple board certification, specializing in pacemakers and heart rhythm disorders. He provides his expertise at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, and also extends his services to the outreach clinic at HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital.

“When patients and their families are confronted with heart rhythm disturbances, they have to make important decisions. I try to help patients understand all of their options, so they can make their own ‘right choice’.”

Having graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 1982, Dr. Miller pursued his residency and fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and clinical cardiac electrophysiology, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Besides holding the distinction of being a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Miller actively participates as a member of both the Illinois Medical Society and the Sangamon County Medical Society.

Clinical cardiac electrophysiology (also referred to as cardiac electrophysiology, arrhythmia services, or electrophysiology), is a branch of the medical specialty of cardiology and is concerned with the study and treatment of rhythm disorders of the heart. An electrophysiologist is a type of cardiologist. They focus on the heart’s timing, or electrical system, and on diagnosing and treating irregular heartbeats or arrhythmias. They are also qualified to perform special tests of the heart’s electrical system, such as an electrophysiology study or an ablation.
