Furthering his training, he performed his residency in surgery at LAC+USC Medical Center in 1984, and his residency in internal medicine at California Pacific Medical Center in 1988. He also completed a preceptorship in HIV medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2001.

Treating adults, Dr. Pierce is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

A specialist in HIV medicine through the American Academy of HIV Medicine, Dr. Pierce is also an active member of the Society of General Internal Medicine, the American College of Physicians (Fellow), the Florida Medical Association, and the American Medical Association.
