Educated in the United States, Dr. Oberman received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College, and graduated with his medical degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine, where he was on scholarship with the Navy. He then went on to complete his internships in pediatrics and general surgery, as well as his residency in otolaryngology, at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. He also completed training at the Naval Undersea Medical Institute (NUMI), and the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center.

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the doctor is board-certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, which is a non-profit corporation that has set the mission of ensuring professional standards with certificates and memberships and has offered training in the fields of head neck surgery to professionals since 1924.

While in the US Navy, his operational tours included Submarine Squadrons SIX, EIGHT in Norfolk, Virginia, and he was the Senior Diving Medical Officer for Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group TWO in Little Creek, Virginia. He also served as the Tidewater regional diving casualty and clinical hyperbaric expert consultant, covered for the SUBLANT Senior Medical Officer, and established a SCUBA training program for submarines on the waterfront.

Moreover, Dr. Oberman completed two tours as a staff otolaryngologist in both Okinawa, Japan and Jacksonville, Florida. While on staff in Jacksonville, he served a two-year term as the President of the Medical Staff, as well as serving as their Communication in Healthcare Course Director.

Finally, he deployed on the USS Narwhal submarine receiving his submarine medical officer qualification and performed underwater explosive surveillance during OPSAIL 2000 in NYC harbor, summer 2000.
