  • Can my condition be 100% fixed?

That is a great question. The answer depends on whether or not your inner ear developed. To answer your question, you will need to see an otologist who will perform tests to see if the inner ear is present and if there is as chance of reconstructing the hearing or using a cochlear implant. At your age, if there has been no auditory input to your brain, it is likely that the part of your brain which would receive auditory information from that ear has not developed. The only way to answer these uncertainties is to get a medical work up from an otologist. READ MORE

  • How long do sinus infections last?

It depends on the cause of the infection (bacteria - viral), the underlying health of the patient, the health of their sinus lining and the anatomy of their sinus cavities. Also on the treatment and associated pathologies (allergies, etc.) just to list a few general variables. A persistent sinus infection should be evaluated and treated by an expert in sinus disease like an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist. READ MORE

  • What are the best ways to treat a throat infection?

The best way to treat any infection depends on what is causing the infection. If it is a virus the best treatment is fluids, rest and vitamin c and zinc and symptomatic treatment. A bacterial infection is treated with antibiotics. This is especially important for strep infection which can cause serious side effects ( including heart and kidney disease) if untreated. Fungal infections like thrush can also cause white patches although these look different from other infections and a doctor should usually recognize this right away. Fungal infections are treated with different drugs from bacterial infections. So sorry - there is no simple answer. READ MORE

  • How do ear tubes work in treating ear pain?

They work great if the pain is caused because the patient’s Eustachian tubes are not equalizing the air pressures on each side of the ear drum. The tubes allow air to flow through the drum so the pressure is equal on both sides. If the ear pain is caused by something else than tubes will not help at all. An ear doctor, working with an audiologist who can do a full function test of the ear and Eustachian tube can telll what is causing the ear pain. Sometimes it is not even the ear!!. Pain in the throat, tonsils, vocal cords, etc. or even the jaw joint can be “ referred” to th ear and feel just like ear pain. READ MORE

  • A ball hit my ear, hard. Can this make me deaf?

The short answer is yes. Trauma of different types can reduce your hearing in several different ways. The only to evaluate your ear properly with a complete audio logic work up by a qualified audiologist working with an ear doctor READ MORE
