Get to know Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist Dr. Safa M. Rifka, who serves patients in Bethesda, Maryland & Washington, D.C.

Dr. Rifka is a highly successful board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist. He cares for patients at Columbia Fertility Associates in Bethesda, Maryland & the Washington D.C. location. 

In practice for over 40 years, he is known for helping with the most complex of infertility cases. He recognizes the special needs of patients struggling with infertility and strives to provide innovative medical solutions with personalized patient-centric care.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Rifka earned his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the American University of Beirut. He went through both his internship and residency at the American University Hospital in Lebanon before relocating to the United States. Not only did he complete additional fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility through the National Institutes of Health, he opted to enhance his education and experience even further.

Thereafter, he went on to finish his board certification through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is currently board-certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI), as well as in obstetrics and gynecology. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) is a surgical subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology that trains physicians in reproductive medicine addressing hormonal functioning as it pertains to the reproduction, as well as the issue of infertility. While most REI specialists primarily focus on the treatment of infertility, reproductive endocrinologists are trained to also evaluate and treat hormonal dysfunctions in females and males outside after the reproductive years.

As a trusted leader in reproductive health, Dr. Rifka has published numerous peer-reviewed studies on the effects of hormones on the male and female reproductive systems. In 2016, he was recognized as one of Washingtonian Magazine’s Top Doctors.

Among his diverse accolades include On-Time Doctor Award (2015, 2018), Patients’ Choice Award (2018), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2018).

Being fluent in English, Arabic, and French allows Dr. Rifka to be able to communicate with patients in Bethesda, Maryland as a specialized fertility doctor from diverse cultural backgrounds.
