Dr. Unal completed her general psychiatry residency at State University of NY, and then subsequently child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Mayo Clinic. Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certification in psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
She specializes in treatment for wide variety of psychiatric illnesses particularly mood, anxiety, and developmental disorders. She also has extensive experience in the developmental psychopathology of childhood mental illnesses and treatment mechanisms in pharmacological and psychosocial interventions.
Dr Unal founded and directed clinical programs, including Pediatric Mood Disorder Clinic at Mayo Clinic and Youth Psychiatric Hospital at North Central Healthcare.She also served as faculty member at several academic centers including Mayo Clinic and Yale University. She received honors and awards for research and teaching services.
Dr Unal is an enthusiastic patient advocate and have served on the medical boards of several foundations and institutions. In recent years, she worked in community treatment centers and engaged in building clinical programs and outreach activities to improve access and quality of psychiatric care for children and families.
Among her various accolades, Dr. Unal has been the recipient of the Compassionate Doctor Recognition in 2016.
