Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Sohaib Kureshi, who serves patients in San Diego, California.

Dr. Kureshi is a board-certified neurosurgeon who has practiced neurosurgery in San Diego for more than thirty years, joining Neurosurgical Medical Clinic in 1990. He strives to make a difference every day and to deliver compassionate, personalized health care. He believes in working with his patients to provide the best treatment options and care possible for every patient.

Their experienced neurosurgeons, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, have over 20 years of experience providing a comprehensive range of care for surgical disorders of the brain, the spine and peripheral nerves. 

Pertaining to his educational background, Dr. Kureshi received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, San Diego, and his medical degree from the University of Southern California (USC) School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in neurosurgery at the Duke University Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident.

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the doctor is board-certified in neurological surgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). The broad aim of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

Holding membership status, he is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the San Diego Medical Society. He has written articles for several peer-reviewed publications, including Neurosurgery, Skull Base Surgery and Conference Proceedings from the International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society. He has co-authored chapters for the books Techniques in Neurosurgery and Neurosurgical Operative Atlas, Volume 6.

In his professional experience, Dr. Kureshi maintains hospital privileges at Sharp Memorial Hospital, Sharp Grossmont Hospital, Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, Scripps Mercy Hospital, Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, and Palomar Medical Center.

Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, cervical and lumbar disc disease, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.

On a more personal note, Dr. Kureshi enjoys spending his free time with family and friends, traveling, surfing, and racing. He continues to compete in wheel-to-wheel race car driving.
