About

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Peter P. Sun, MD is a Pediatric Neurosurgeon currently serving his patients in Oakland, California at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. He is committed to providing the highest quality care to his patients. He grew up in Taiwan and Los Angeles, speaks English and Mandarin Chinese, and values his bicultural heritage. Dr. Sun believes that “having another cultural background always adds more perspective.” To begin his career, Dr. Sun obtained his medical degree in 1991 from Columbia University. From there, he attended UC Davis and completed his neurosurgery residency in 1992 followed by his second neurosurgery residency in 1995 from Yale University. Wanting to further his knowledge in the field, Dr. Sun went on to complete his pediatric neurosurgery fellowship in 1997 from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. As a testament to his success, Dr. Sun is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. On a more personal note, as a child he was fascinated with the brain and nervous system and discovered that the nervous system was “the most elegant in the body,” and realized that the surgical approach to “fix things” was the best fit for his skills and personality. He decided to pursue neurosurgery, one of medicine’s most demanding subspecialties.
