Hi, I'm Michael Acquista DDS. I got my dental degree from Columbia School of Dental & Oral Surgery and have been in private practice in Bay Ridge for over 30 years. My office is small and you will receive individual attention. I offer the best ways to prevent tooth decay and gum disease, the best Cosmetic Dentistry and esthetics, filling materials, crowns, bridges, implant restorations and dentures. I promise I will exceed your expectations and do everything possible to explain your conditions and treatment options as well as being gentle and thorough. Overbite is not measured as a percentage. The indications for orthodontic therapy are complex. The doctor should tell you the pros and cons of getting or not getting treatment. Floss correctly every day and stop eating sugary foods, limit carbs, and starchy foods. READ MORE
Do permanent dentures fit better than immediate dentures?
Immediate dentures are placed the same day as teeth are extracted. The area around the extraction socket shrinks as it heals for at least 6-8 weeks. Then, the denture does not fit as well and the area is relined with denture material to fill in the area that shrank. After reline, it fits the same as permanent dentures. READ MORE

How do they remove a cyst from the gum?
First, numb the area. Then cut open the gum around it. Next, separate the cyst from surrounding tissues, remove it, and suture tissues close. READ MORE

Wait 2-4 months for the implant to integrate. Confirm it is successful. Impressions. Insert permanent attachment to Implant and crown. READ MORE
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive after a cleaning?
Yes. After removing calculus, the gums can shrink and expose some root surfaces that can be sensitive to air and cold. Ask your dentist if you can get a fluoride treatment or other desensitizing treatment. You can also get ACT fluoride rinse and swish for 1 minute then spit out Do Not Rinse at bedtime, 3 times per week. This will reduce sensitivity in the long run. READ MORE
