With a broad educational background, Dr. Shah graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his medical training at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. During this time, he was awarded a prize for his research on brain imaging at the Duke University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in radiation oncology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, and his fellowship in neuro-oncology at the Thomas Jefferson School of Medicine and Wills Eye Hospital, both in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, followed by a stint on the faculty.

The doctor is board-certified in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The mission of the ABR is to serve patients, the public, and the medical profession by certifying that its diplomates have acquired, demonstrated, and maintained a requisite standard of knowledge, skill, and understanding essential to the safe and competent practice of diagnostic radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.

In good standing with a number of professional organizations, Dr. Shah is an active member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Radiology, the American College of Radiation Oncology, and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.

Radiation oncology is a medical specialty that involves the controlled use of radiation to treat cancer. It is one of the three primary specialties – the other two being surgical and medical oncology – involved in the treatment of cancer.
