Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Varinder S. Rathore, who serves patients throughout the State of New York.
A double board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Rathore is the Chief of Mental Health at North Medical Group in Fishkill, and New Windsor, New York. He specializes in treating patients with a vast range of psychiatric conditions including major depression, anxiety, panic attacks, bipolar disorder and ADD/ADHD.
He also practices addiction psychiatry, an area of medicine that helps devastated families navigate the complications of addiction. He utilizes evidence-based treatments with medications and therapy to provide the patient with “wrap around treatment,” and is also trained in Suboxone treatment. Every day, he provides patients and their families with world class treatment that is not a world away.
Born and raised in the Hudson Valley, Dr. Rathore earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the New York University, and received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency in psychiatry at the Albany Medical Center, and his fellowship in substance abuse and mental health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine / Montefiore Medical Center.
Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in psychiatry and addiction medicine through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.
Bringing over a decade of experience spearheading healthcare initiatives and community-based projects, Dr. Rathore has been instrumental in initiating faith-based Health Fairs in Queens, New York, and is a strong proponent of inculcating a strong mental health, addiction component and trauma work into the primary care outreach(es).
For over a decade, he was the Medical Director of Safe Horizon’s Streetwork Project where he provided a harm reduction model of health care to homeless youth with mental illness and chemical addictions. He was involved in Thrive NY’s Mental Health Roadmap to provide mental health services to minority communities. Currently, he is a speaker for the National Association on Mental Illness (NAMI), and presenter/member of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP).
Among his prior academic appointments, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine / Montefiore Medical Center.
