Get to know Internist Dr. Ali Al-Ameri, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.

A well-versed internist, Dr. Al-Ameri is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Hospital Medicine, Division of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Prior to his current endeavours, he served as a hospitalist/medical director at McAllen Hospitalist Group, McAllen Medical Center (2015 – 2018), a hospitalist at Bayshore Medical Center (2014 – 2015), a clinical instructor of internal medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University, a professor of internal medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine/Hematology at the School of Medicine-University of Jordan (2006 – 2006), a professor of internal medicine & clinical hematology at Al-Mustansiriyah College of Medicine, The National Center of Hematology (2006 – 2006), an associate professor at Al-Mustansiriyah College of Medicine, The National Center of Hematology (1999 – 2006), and as an assistant professor at Al-Mustansiriyah College of Medicine, The National Center of Hematology (1992 – 1999).

Academically, Dr. Al-Ameri graduated with his medical degree from Baghdad College of Medicine in 1985. He then went on to perform a clinical residency at Al-Najaf Teaching Hospital, Najaf (1985 – 1987), followed by a clinical residency within the Department of Internal Medicine at Baghdad Medical City Hospital (1987 – 1992). 

He served as a Clinical Visiting Professor within the Department of Leukemia at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (2007 – 2008), and then as a Clinical Research Scientist within the Department of Leukemia at the said establishment (2008 – 2009). From there, Dr. Al-Ameri went on to complete a clinical fellowship in leukemia at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (2009 – 2011), and a clinical residency in internal medicine at Akron General Medical Center (2011 – 2014).

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), he is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
