A native of Syria, Dr. Jarmakani earned his medical degree from the University of Damascus in 1979. After relocating to the United States, he completed his internship and residency in diagnostic radiology at UCLA in 1989. Finally, he completed his fellowship in interventional radiology at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in 1990.
Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in interventional radiology and diagnostic radiology through the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is a not-for-profit physician-led organization that oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.
Interventional radiology is a medical specialization that involves performing a range of imaging procedures to obtain images of the inside of the body. Vascular & interventional radiologists focus on diseases of the blood vessels and lymphatic system, but also treat other conditions such as cancer and infertility.
