Dr. Zen Tuan is an acupuncturist practicing in Pasadena, CA. Dr. Tuan evaluates and treats patients based on the concepts of oriental medicine. Acupuncturists complete their evaluations by getting a patient history and looking at and touching the body. Then, they place very fine acupuncture needles into specific points on the body. Stimulating these points and nerves is how Dr. Tuan treats the patient's condition. Many of the body's systems respond to acupuncture, and it can treat physical pain as well as emotional stress.

Patients are often surprised to hear that acupuncture and Chinese herbs have been used for centuries to treat symptoms of anemia such as tiredness, weakness and pale complexion. Recent studies have verified that acupuncture can enhance the levels of the serum ferratin. The needling of specific acupoints can bolster nutrients that can enhance iron absorption. When a person suffers from anemia, it is also logical that his or her diet needs to be addressed. Acupuncture can be the catalyst to enhance the digestive function and absorption of food, but we may look at adding nutritional supplements or herbs during the course of treatment. READ MORE
Absolutely! Acupuncture points are areas of designated electrical sensitivity. Inserting needles at these points stimulates various sensory receptors that, in turn, stimulate nerves that transmit impulses to the hypothalamic-pituitary system at the base of the brain. The hypothalamus-pituitary glands are responsible for releasing neurotransmitters and endorphins, the body's natural pain-killing hormones. It is estimated that endorphins are 200 times more potent than morphine. This is why acupuncture works well for all types of pain in the body. We'd be more than happy to help manage your joint pain!
