A 1972 graduate of the University of Damascus, Faculty of Medicine in Syria, Dr. Al-Khalil relocated to the United States to complete his training. He performed his internship at Iowa Methodist Medical Center and his residency in pediatrics at the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo. Wanting to further his education, he completed his fellowships in pediatric hematology-oncology at the University of Connecticut and Yale-New Haven Hospital.

More specifically, a pediatric hematologist-oncologist treats children and teens from birth through young adulthood.
