Get to know Pain Management Specialist Dr. Heather Smith-Fernandez, who serves patients in Naples, Florida.

A board-certified and fellowship-trained pain management specialist, Dr. Smith-Fernandez is the Founder and Medical Director of the Regenerative Institute of Medicine in Naples, Florida. She is one of only two physicians in the world licensed to use a proprietary and powerful cell preparation technique for orthopedic and spine conditions using a patient’s own regenerative cells. 

In addition to this highly-sophisticated technology, she also practices Interventional Regenerative Orthopedic Medicine (IROM), which primarily focuses on non-surgical methods to restore function, regenerate tissue and alleviate orthopedic and musculoskeletal pain, often where conventional medicine has failed.

Furthermore, Dr. Smith-Fernandez is fully trained and certified in Bioidentical Hormone Replacement, advanced biocellular aesthetics, Integrative medicine, and preventative health. In 2016, she opened the Regenerative Institute of Medicine, where she and her team practice a truly integrated approach for total health, orthobiologic (including PRP and stem cell-rich biocellular preparation) treatments for joint and spine conditions as well as very advanced cellular therapies for facial aesthetics.

Throughout her academic career, she graduated with her medical degree from the Spartan Health Sciences University in 2002, and completed her internship and residency in anesthesiology from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2006. Finally, she completed her fellowship in pain management at the same educational venue in 2008.

An authority in her field, the doctor is board-certified in anesthesiology and pain management by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care.
