Tampa General Hospital is a private not-for-profit hospital and one of the most comprehensive medical facilities in West Central Florida serving a dozen counties with a population in excess of 4 million. As one of the largest hospitals in Florida, Tampa General is licensed for 1,040 beds, and with more than 8,000 team members, is one of the region’s largest employers.
A native of India, Dr. Kumar earned his medical degree from Sri Ramachandra Medical College in 1995. After relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 2005 and 2009, respectively. Finally, he completed an additional fellowship in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplant at the same educational venue in 2010.
Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in cardiovascular disease, advanced heart failure and cardiac transplant, and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Maintaining fellowship status, he is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), Fellow of the Heart Failure Society of America (FHFSA), and Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE).
Continuously advancing his efforts, Dr. Kumar is an active member of the American Society of Transplantation, and the American Heart Association.
