  • What are the warning signs my son's blood sugars are too low?

Most common symptoms of low sugar are shakiness, sweating, dizziness, irritability, hunger, moody, or change in alertness. I always recommend patients wearing a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) that you can also track and be notified if his sugars are dropping. READ MORE

  • Do I have diabetes?

Instead of worrying and wondering what it could be or if it is diabetes, you need to schedule an evaluation with a physician and have further testing. You can call your primary care doctor or go to an urgent care center. Find out what’s wrong so you can start fixing the underlying problem. READ MORE

  • Insulin shot?

You should take your insulin even if it’s cold. You can keep it in room temp for half hour to an hour or so, to warm it up a bit, but you should not skip your dose just because it’s cold READ MORE

  • How are pituitary tumors treated?

It depends on the type of pituitary tumor. Most common treatment is observation or medication or surgery, depending on hormone production of the pituitary tumor. READ MORE

  • Diabetes 2?

No, it means that with medication (metformin), you improved your glucose control. READ MORE

  • Can thyroid problems cause gray hair?

Unlikely. Gray hair at an early age is more genetic READ MORE

  • Can too much sugar cause problems?

Yes, Yes and YES! READ MORE

  • Blood testing for diseases?

It depends what vials for blood they drew and how long ago. When doctors send for blood work, we are ordering specific tests to be run. So if they tested you only for thyroid, you will need a separate blood test for diabetes testing. Sometimes we test for other things but generally discuss that with patient at the time of the blood draw (for example, I may add vitamin D levels or a1C which is diabetes marker) even though my patient came for thyroid evaluation to be complete, but I generally tell my patient I am adding other labs. READ MORE

  • Hb1Ac test?

This depends predominantly on whether your good A1c is due to you currently taking medication that are keeping it well controlled. If you are not on medication currently, you are doing well with current lifestyle alone. READ MORE

  • My husband feels extremely tired and drained out. How can I help him?

Feeling tired and drained is extremely multi factorial. The best treatment is finding the root of the fatigue and treating it. Is he getting 8 hrs of sleep at night? Is he eating a well balanced diet and staying well hydrated? Is he exercising at least 20-30 min per day? Does he have a thyroid problem that can contribute to fatigue, or very low vitamin D level? READ MORE

  • Covid Vaccine?

Diabetes is a well known risk factor to impact people who contract Covid much more than some other medical conditions. Recommendation is to vaccinate. One of the reasons diabetes was one of the secondary conditions that prompted patients to become eligible for vaccine earlier. READ MORE

  • Do I have hypothyroidism?

The best way is to have blood work evaluation for thyroid function to determine if your symptoms are related to thyroid dysfunction or another cause/causes. READ MORE

  • Will insulin be difficult to get during the coronavirus?

There should not be any change in insulin supply/production at the pharmacies. Your daughter should follow up with her doctor to make sure she is getting necessary medication refills without running out. READ MORE

  • How should diabetes be treated in patients who have had it for a long time?

If your mom is not controlled on the medication with A1C of 11%, she needs insulin therapy. She has had diabetes for too long and I recommend addressing this with an endocrinologist ASAP before she develops other problems like stroke or heart attack. READ MORE

  • My mother suffered from 3 episodes of hypoglycemia in a day. Will she be okay?

Depends how low her sugars were and what her mental state was. Definitely warrants calling her doctor and discussing change in her diabetes medication to avoid recurring episodes of hypo’s. READ MORE

  • Can I take Insulin to control blood sugar?

280 is quite high. It depends which medications you are taking and if there is room to add others or stronger agents without insulin first. If you are at a max with others, insulin for meal time will certainly help. READ MORE

  • Can my thyroid be the reason behind my high cholesterol?

Absolutely. Thyroid function impacts your metabolism. Fix the thyroid issue then recheck the cholesterol levels. READ MORE

  • Is yoga advisable to manage diabetes?

Any form of exercise where your muscles are being utilized will help lower your blood sugar. READ MORE

  • Is brown rice helpful in controlling diabetes?

Brown rice contains more fiber than white rice so switching to brown rice will mildly help. However cutting back on how frequently you eat rice and lowering portion size would be even more helpful READ MORE

  • What should be the ideal HbA1C for a diabetic patient?
