Get to know Orthodontist Dr. Alireza Hourfar, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Hourfar, a highly skilled and board-certified orthodontist, is embarking on the launch of Mia Orthodontics, a state-of-the-art boutique practice located in Upper Kirby. This new venture boasts state-of-the-art technology, ensuring patients receive the latest advancements in orthodontic care.

With a wealth of experience in handling diverse and complex cases, Dr. Hourfar offers a comprehensive range of orthodontic and dentofacial procedures. These include early and interceptive treatments, growth modification, orthognathic surgery, and the management of cleft lip and palate conditions. 

Proficient in utilizing Invisalign and clear aligners, Dr. Hourfar offers direct printed aligners, including Graphy and 4D Aligners, representing the latest technology in aligner therapy. These materials possess “shape memory,” enhanced biomechanical properties, and offer a more precise fit on teeth, potentially enhancing treatment outcomes.

In his line of work, Dr. Hourfar employs soft tissue lasers, temporary anchorage devices, as well as administers aesthetic and fully-customized orthodontic treatments. His expertise extends to sleep medicine and airway orthodontics, highlighting his commitment to offering a full range of advanced and holistic care at Mia Orthodontics.

Scholastically, Dr. Hourfar earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran in 1997, and went on to perform his residency in orthodontics in Iran from 2000-2004 . He furthered his education with specialized clinical training in orthodontics at UCLA, earning a Certificate in Advanced Orthodontics in 2012.

Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, Dr. Hourfar earned a Master of Science Degree in Oral Biology from UCLA’s Orthodontic Residency Program in 2015. Additionally, he attained board certification through the American Board of Orthodontics, showcasing his dedication to providing exceptional orthodontic care and treatment.

With over two decades of experience in dentistry, Dr. Hourfar has successfully treated thousands of orthodontic cases with a great variety in their nature and complexity. Having treated numerous patients with diverse challenges, he consistently delivers exceptional outcomes, evident in his role as an Adjunct Associate Professor within the Orthodontic Department at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry.

Remaining abreast of the latest advancements in his field and upholding the highest standards of patient care, Dr. Hourfar maintains active membership in prestigious organizations including the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the World Federation of Orthodontists, the Texas Association of Orthodontists, the Texas Dental Association, the Greater Houston Dental Society, and the Academy of Laser Dentistry.

Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of malpositioned teeth and jaws. Orthodontists are responsible for identifying problems with the positioning of a patient’s teeth and with their oral development.
