In the time between earning his medical degree and completing his residency, Dr. Watemberg worked as a rotating intern at the Social Security Hospital in his hometown in Colombia, then as a rural physician at the Melamed Medical Center in Malambo, Colombia. After relocating to the United States, he worked as a research assistant in the Liver Transplant Program at Baylor University Medical Center.
During his childhood in Colombia, Dr. Watemberg experienced firsthand being treated by a general physician and was inspired to become a family physician. “Taking care of the family as a whole allows me to understand the dynamic of the illness; seeing the newborns become teenagers, taking care of adults with chronic conditions, and being a part of the decision with the elder patients when the time comes for decisions about home care or nursing home placement,” said Dr. Watemberg.
Dr. Watemberg is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). Founded in 1969, the ABFM is a not-for-profit, private organization whose mission is to improve the health of the public through board certification, residency training, research, leadership development, and promoting the development of the specialty of family medicine.
Dr. Watemberg is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Tarrant County Medical Society, and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.
