Dr. McMahan is a fully experienced, board-certified emergency physician who treats all ages with illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention.
Specializing in emergency medicine, but then branching out into hospice and palliative care, she is the medical director of the Emergency Department at Garden Grove Hospital Medical Center and concurrently is the Outpatient Palliative and Hospice Medical Director at MemorialCare Hospice.
With a background in ICU and ER nursing, Dr. McMahan graduated with her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 2002. She then went on to perform her internship and residency in emergency medicine at UCLA-Olive View Medical Center.
Board-certified in emergency medicine, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). The ABEM certifies emergency physicians who meet its educational, professional, and examination standards.
With over three decades of experience, Dr. McMahan started teaching Vituity ED physicians and APs about Palliative and Hospice Care in 2012. She began providing outpatient community-based hospice care with Vitas Healthcare in 2017 and Memorial Care Hospice in 2019.
Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician may work in an emergency department or in an outpatient setting such as an urgent care center or acute care center. Emergency physicians care for acutely ill or injured patients on an unscheduled basis.
On a more personal note, Dr. McMahan is fluent in English and Vietnamese. She enjoys all kinds of dancing for fitness and volunteers for the California Coalition of Compassionate Care’s Physician Leadership Council for the California POLST and Vituity Cares Foundation. She is on the board of the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce, the Garden Grove Community Foundation and the RxBallroomDance Nonprofit.
