Dr. Susan Mautone completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Biology with Magna Cum Laude recognition, after which she pursued her Medical career at Columbia University in New York. Having a strong passion for the Pediatrics field, she then completed her Internship and Residency in the Department of Pediatrics in 2002. Dr. Mautone has worked as a Pediatric Hospitalist and in several Pediatric Primary Care Offices in Florida. She is currently appointed to the Medical Staff of Jupiter Medical Center and Palms West Hospital. Dr. Mautone is Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, is an active Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Palm Beach Pediatric Society.
Dr. Mautone is fully bilingual (Spanish & English). She lives in Palm Beach County with her husband, pre-teen daughter, her toddler son and a Super-hairy dog called Lucky. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and traveling!

What is causing hair loss in my 4 year old?
Hair loss can be do to a variety of issues, but very commonly presents in my younger patents due to stress, developmental delays, or frustration. Is being underweight bad?
This depends on how much below BMI she is. Some children have fast metabolisms while others may need to have an endocrinology work-up to explore any possible thyroid issues. If her TSH levels are normal and she is healthy otherwise, I would not be concerned. READ MORE
Is it safe to give my child a cold shower in case of a high grade fever?
Yes, but if you are unable to get a fever down that is 103.5 degrees or higher for more than 8 hours, it is advised that you go to the emergency room or see your pediatrician immediately. Cold compresses are also effective and tolerated more than cold showers. READ MORE

Dr. Mautone was the lead clinical investigator on Harvard and Atra Zeneca Tclincal trials focusing on imaging in utero to diagnose neurological disorders. She is currently the lead on a Harvard/John Hopkins trial evaluating the effects of COVID-19 on pediatric patients.
