Dr. Kovacevic is a highly skilled orthopedic surgeon working with patients at NYM Orthopedics & Spine in New York. He specializes in a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries, including ACL knee injuries, meniscus injuries, shoulder arthritis, and complex shoulder and elbow reconstructions. Focusing on providing compassionate and world-class care, he has dedicated his career to helping patients of all ages and athletes at every level recover from injuries and regain functionality.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he pursued his academic journey with a B.S. in Economics, Zoology, and Neuroscience from Miami University, followed by a Doctorate of Medicine Degree from Ohio State University. His residency in orthopedic surgery at Cleveland Clinic allowed him to hone his surgical skills, and he furthered his expertise as a George W. Crile Research Fellow. He completed his fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, specializing in shoulder, elbow, and sports medicine surgery.
As an academic surgeon-scientist, Dr. Kovacevic has a strong interest in biologic augmentation of tendon-to-bone healing and preventing rotator cuff muscle "fatty atrophy." His dedication to translational research is evidenced by leading the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Massive Rotator Cuff Tear Research Group, focused on enhancing the understanding and treatment of massive rotator cuff tears. With over 50 peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters, his contributions to the field are widely recognized.
Passionate for rugby medicine, he serves as the team physician for Rugby New York and Old Blue Rugby, as well as a consultant for Yale University Rugby. His experience managing elite rugby athletes since 2015 includes previous roles as head team physician for both Yale and Columbia University Rugby, and a consultant for Major League Rugby's New Orleans Gold Rugby. Now, as the team physician for Major League Rugby's Rugby New York and Old Blue Rugby, he continues to prioritize peak performance, recovery, and injury prevention for athletes and weekend warriors alike.
