No, it is not normal. Yes, you should discuss with your surgeon. READ MORE
What are the precautions for a diabetic patient going in for a knee surgery?
Managing his blood sugars in a good range will go a long way in reading infection and proper healing. READ MORE
How do I manage my husband's stomach disorders after his gall bladder surgery?

What are the side effects of bariatric surgery?
This information is very important for you to discuss with your surgeon amd his pre-op team. READ MORE
My son had a neck bone fracture. The doctors are suggesting surgery. Is it the only option?
If there is a fracture, your son definitely needs the surgery, unless you want to take care of a quadriplegic your whole life. READ MORE
What is the recovery period for laparoscopic surgery?
“Laparoscopic surgery” is not a generic term with which one can ask the question you posed regarding recovery. A host of other factors are involved in computing such answer. Such factors include the age of the patient, the type of operation being planned within the abdomen, and ones preoperative risk factors, to name a few. Your husband has done himself a huge favor by quitting smoking several weeks in advance of his surgery. I would suggest you talk about the recovery with the surgeon who will be performing it. If he were to have a laparoscopic appendectomy or cholecystectomy, recovery would be a whole lot different than if the proposed surgery is a laparoscopic gastric bypass or laparoscopic colectomy. With regards to the risk factors that I mentioned, were he to have a colectomy because of multiple attacks of diverticulitis, the recovery would be a lot longer than it would be if he were having a colectomy for stage one or two colon cancer. Can erectile dysfunction be treated through surgery?
A penile prosthesis is a potential remedy for such a situation but I would not recommend it unless all other options were totally exhausted. READ MORE
Is a hair transplant surgery invasive?
Infection, failure of transplant to take, scarring, not covered by indemnity plans. READ MORE
For a diabetic patient with gangrene in one toe, is foot amputation the only option?
Not enough information. You need to supply me with the arteriogram report. If you have been a smoker or diabetic for a long portion of your life, the chances that your vessels are occluded is likely the reason a toe amputation will not heal. READ MORE
Can I take progesterone tablets before my fibroids surgery?
This is DEFINITELY a question for your GYN or surgical physician doing your surgery! READ MORE
Can my mother's sugar levels fluctuate during her bypass surgery?
Extremely likely, I would not be too concerned as her NPH is likely to be discontinued until her normal heating habits are resumed. READ MORE
The doctor has suggested finger amputation for my father. How successful is this method of controlling gangrene from spreading?
That really depends upon the cause the gangrene. If it is from infection, I would say yes. It’s from advanced atherosclerotic vascular disease, I would be hesitant to say yes. READ MORE
Are there any risks involved in a hair transplant surgery?
Primary risks are failure of the graft and infections. Both are pretty low since the scalp seldom has either because of its good blood supply. READ MORE
Will a fall after a hip replacement surgery require another surgery?
You need to take her to the Doctor Who did the surgery immediately. Why are you delaying? READ MORE
What is robotic surgery and how does it work?
It is a form of minimally invasive surgery. READ MORE
How long does it typically take to recover from c-section?
Depends on what you mean by recover. The general answer is 6 weeks. READ MORE
My husband has had a relapse of anal fissures. Would he require another surgery?
Saying he had surgery is not sufficient information. What surgery did he have? Sphincterotomy? injection of Botox? Recurrence is a bit odd. Has he been examined? Could the bleeding be something else this time like hemorrhoids? Go back to the surgeon who did the original operation and see what he has to say. READ MORE
My sister has swelling and excessive pain on her toe, which also has pus and blood secreting. Does she need a surgery?
Sound like this could be osteomyelitis. Get it checked out IMMEDIATELY. If the infection is in the bone and deep seated, antibiotics will not likely be sufficient. READ MORE
Can I have sex after 13 days of hernia surgery?
I would not prohibit it in my practice but I would suggest you be on the bottom for the first time to see how things go. READ MORE
Is surgery the only option for a disc bulge?
While a period of rest is initially recommended, physical therapy is the cornerstone to improving core muscle strength which may improve symptoms. The younger you are, the more likely the disc is still liquid enough to resorb and retreat back into the disc space and not herniate into the spaces where nerves are. Chiropractic manipulations may help realign the bones enough to allow this to happen. Your treating surgeon may also recommend epidural injections to facilitate this herniated disc to retreat. If all this is not working, you will likely get an EMG which can show the surgeon that the nerves transmitting signals to the muscles are injured and the muscles are dying. Surgery may be recommended, but understand that the reasons are to prevent further damage. You will likely still notice weakness after the surgery. You can try acupuncture, but it is not helpful to the majority with disc problems. READ MORE
