Dr. Tuesday F. A. Cook is a board certified, fellowship-trained, Bariatric and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon who has been in practice for more than a decade. She is a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation Quality Improvement Program Verified Surgeon, certified by the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

She received her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine and afterward completed a general surgery residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Cook subsequently was accepted into a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the Pennsylvania State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

She is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and has served as a Clinical Instructor both in Pennsylvania and Maryland, teaching surgical residents and medical students from the United States and abroad. Annually, she welcomes both high school and college students to shadow her in the office and hospital, and she gives lectures about the path towards medicine at local universities.

Dr. Cook has been practicing as a Bariatric, Minimally Invasive and General surgeon in Maryland since 2008, performing a variety of minimally invasive procedures including laparoscopic abdominal wall and hiatal hernia repairs, laparoscopic anti-reflux operations, laparoscopic gallbladder removal and laparoscopic colon resections.

She is proud of her volunteerism and service, performing general surgery operations on medical missions to other countries as well, including Haiti after its devastating earthquake.

Dr. Cook is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). She is also a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Medical Association.

She currently serves on the Executive Board of the Montgomery County Medical Society, serving dual roles as Chairperson of the Women in Medicine Committee and Secretary of the Board. She is the past Secretary of the Board for the Maryland State Chapter of the ASMBS and lobbies both on Capitol Hill and in Annapolis as an advocate for the rights of both patients and physicians.

She has performed Laparoscopic Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band placement in the area since 2008.

She also has performed Bariatric Surgery Revisions and Conversions for more than a decade. She provides Endoscopic Management and treatment modalities for bariatric and general surgery patients, learned throughout her fellowship and through her annual attendance at national meetings and courses for physicians.

She has lectured in varying arenas on metabolic and bariatric procedures, care of the bariatric patient and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Her areas of special interest also include minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery, including procedures for the treatment of achalasia, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), paraesophageal/hiatal hernias and colon resection.

Dr. Cook was one of the first 15 physicians in the United States to be trained on the placement and management of the FDA-approved Intragastric Balloons and currently places them both in her office as well as endoscopically.

Dr. Cook performs minimally invasive weight loss surgery and other laparoscopic general surgical procedures at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center, Holy Cross Germantown Hospital and the Surgery Center of Rockville.
