Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Matthew K. Adams, who serves patients in Florida.

Dr. Adams is a board-certified ophthalmologist and ophthalmic surgeon specializing in Vitreoretinal surgery. He is currently practicing at Florida Eye Associates in Melbourne, Cocoa Beach, and Palm Bay.

His principal areas of interest include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment repair, macular surgery, retinal lasers, and cataract surgery.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Dr. Adams received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. During medical school, he also received a Master of Business Administration degree from the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University. He then received training in Ophthalmology during his residency at Baylor College of Medicine and went on to complete a fellowship in Vitreoretinal surgery at the Mayo Clinic.

With years of experience in his field, Dr. Adams is board-certified in Ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Maintaining professional competence, Dr. Adams is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, and the American Medical Association.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, retinal, and corneal surgery.

As a scientific reviewer for multiple medical journals, Dr. Adams’ work has appeared in numerous journal articles, posters, and presentations on a national and international level.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Adams enjoys scuba diving, skydiving, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and performing as a percussionist.
