About

Dr. Andrea Liacouras is an Audiologist who has been in practice for over 15 years and has worked extensively in the diagnoses and treatments of hearing loss and vestibular (balance) challenges. She holds a National Certification from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). Dr. Liacouras earned her  Master of Science and Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degrees from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC and then completed her Audiology residency at Georgetown University Hospital. Previous to those degrees, she completed a Master of Science degree in Education of the Deaf/Hard of hearing and is therefore also fluent in Sign Language. 

Dr. Liacouras has worked in school, clinic, military, hospital and private practice settings, during her career, with a specialization in pediatrics.  She has extensive experience with newborns through geriatrics while treating high risk patients that have suffered from vertigo, migraines, strokes, tumors, various diseases and other degenerative conditions.  She has also developed a treatment plan for patients suffering from vertigo and migraines through use of amplification.   She founded A 2nd Ear to provide excellent and affordable hearing and balance care and to meet the growing needs of patients and their families, using telehealth technology, from the comfort of their own environments. A 2nd Ear currently serves Maryland, DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York. 

Dr. Liacouras treats her patients like family.  She believes in education so that each patient is equipped to make the most informed decision about their hearing and balance care. She looks forward to making a positive difference in your life.

    It is recommended that you make an appointment with an audiologist to have otoscopy and a full hearing evaluation completed including immittance testing. An audiologist will determine if cerumen (earwax) drops are beneficial and will be able to provide you feedback regarding your hearing sensitivity as well as the health of your middle ear system.   • Foreign object in the ear canal?

    If there are still concerns whether or not there is a foreign object in the ear or a possible infection, you may consider returning to the ear, nose, and throat (ENT) physician or an audiologist to complete otoscopy (looking in the ear canal). If your son continues to complain of discomfort, the ENT or an audiologist will be able to complete a tympanogram to determine if there is fluid behind the eardrum that may or may not be infected. Treatment for Glandular fever may have side effects your ENT can review with you. Your ENT may want to complete additional exams as well.
