It depends on the type of extraction... simple, or surgical extraction. If it is surgical and involving bone incision you may want to eat soft foods that require less heavy chewing forces/pressure in the jaw. Initially, you may want to also avoid very hot foods that may prolong bleeding. However, your dentist normally provides the patient with after surgery instructions, both orally and written. Sorry you are experiencing discomfort on your vacation! You may try to see a dentist who handles out-of-town emergency or go to a hospital emergency room to get pain relief medication. Dr. Fox graduated from the University of Maryland, earning Baccalaureate degrees in Biological Science Research and Dental Hygiene (Preventive Dentistry in Public Health). She continued her dental education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, and later completed her training at Howard University College of Dentistry where she graduated in 1994 with the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree, receiving the Honor of Dental-care Excellence Award from the American Dental Association. She is also awarded The Order of Medical Merit for outstanding accomplishment and professional excellence, The Washingtonian Top Dentists and Invisalign Top Ten Orthodontic listings, and is listed multiple times in the Professionals General Register’s Who’s Who. In 2005 she was awarded The International Peace Prize for international volunteerism in Dentistry.
Dr. Fox’s wealth of knowledge and expertise extends over twenty years of experience in the field of general dentistry. She has many years of post-graduate advanced continuing dental education in general orthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, implant restorative-prosthodontics, and cosmetic/aesthetic restorative dentistry.
