Nocturnist Dr. Baird’s Medical Journey and Commitment to Hospital Medicine
Dr. Baird has been an esteemed hospitalist in the Tampa Bay Area since 2004, with a special dedication to Nocturnist services since 2011. Currently, Dr. Baird serves as a dedicated nocturnist with the Watson Clinic Hospitalist Group at Lakeland Regional Hospital, a role he undertook at the onset of the Covid-19 Global Pandemic, showcasing his unwavering dedication to patient care during challenging times.
Beginning his journey in medicine with the completion of a rigorous BA/MD program at Rutgers University in 1994, he went on to further his training with a residency in internal medicine at Orlando Regional Medical Center in 1997. His passion for caring for hospitalized patients led him to specialize in hospital medicine, where he faced diverse medical challenges ranging from aortic dissections to treating victims of the Haitian Earthquake.
Reflecting on his residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center, Dr. Baird recalls encountering a myriad of critical cases, including king cobra bites, siberian tiger mauling, and complex conditions like thymoma-induced myasthenia gravis. His time at the center sparked his interest in hospital medicine, shaping his career path towards providing high-quality care to those in need.
Throughout his years as a hospitalist, he has been actively involved in educating future medical professionals, including medical students, residents, physician assistants, and APRNs in Florida. His commitment to the medical field extended to serving on various boards such as Ethics, Investigational Review, and Stroke and Adult Congenital Heart Disease at St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he practiced for over a decade.
Beyond his medical career, Dr. Baird emphasizes the importance of cultivating diverse interests for a fulfilling life. An accomplished Master Level diver, passionate fisherman, art collector, and award-winning ballroom dancer, he attributes these pursuits to forming lasting friendships and unique experiences. Notably, his love for ballroom dancing led him to meet his wife, Leticia, whom he married in 2008.
