Born and raised in Italy, Dr. D’Ambrosio received her medical degree in 1981 at Sapienza University of Rome in Rome, Italy. After relocating to the United States, she completed an internal medicine residency at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn (1982 – 1985), followed by two ophthalmology residencies at Catholic Medical Centers of Brooklyn and Queens (1985 – 1987) and SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn (1987 – 1989). 

Subsequent to her training, Dr. D’Ambrosio acquired board certification in ophthalmology from the American Board of Ophthalmology. The American Board of Ophthalmology is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America. Founded in 1916, the ABO was the first American Board established to certify medical specialists.
