Get to know Interventional Cardiologist Dr. George T. Nahhas, who serves patients throughout the State of Michigan.

Fluent in both English and Arabic, Dr. Nahhas is a board-certified and fellowship-trained interventional cardiologist who has over three decades of experience in his field. His specialties include cardiac imaging, cardiology, interventional cardiology, and peripheral vascular disease cardiology.

In practice with Venocure Clinics with offices in Brownstown and Dearborn, Michigan, he is one of the few doctors in the country who can open totally and chronically blocked heart vessels using highly specialized angioplasty techniques, otherwise, those blockages are commonly treated with open-heart surgery.

Venocure Clinics consists of a team of board-certified cardiologists treating coronary artery disease, blocked arteries, congestive heart failure, valve disease, atrial fibrillation, and arrhythmia among many other cardiac problems. They have particular expertise and experience in preventing and treating vascular disease in the entire body, including the legs where blocked vessels usually cause leg pain, as well as vein disease, including varicose veins edema, swelling, lymphedema, and clots.  

In his current capacity, Dr. Nahhas is also affiliated with Beaumont Health, serving as Chief of the Section of Cardiology & Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiovascular Fellowship at Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn. He holds privileges at Beaumont Hospital, Taylor; Beaumont Hospital, Trenton; and Beaumont Hospital, Wayne. 

On the subject of the doctor’s educational background, he earned his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of Damascus University in Syria in 1988. Upon relocating to the United States to further his training, he completed his internship in internal medicine at Marshfield Clinic in 1991 and his residency in internal medicine at William Beaumont Hospital in 1993. This was followed by a fellowship in cardiology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in 1998.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation, Dr. Nahhas is board-certified in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine, which is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

In addition, he holds certifications with the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology, the National Board of Echocardiography, and the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Disease. 

Interventional cardiology is the subspecialty of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter-based treatment of heart diseases. The field includes the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, vascular disease, and acquired structural heart disease. An interventional cardiologist is a cardiologist with one to two years of additional education and training in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease as well as congenital (present at birth) and structural heart conditions through catheter-based procedures such as angioplasty and stenting.
