Get to know Emergency Medicine Physician Dr. Maurice Jakim Galard, who serves patients in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

Dr. Galard is an emergency medicine physician who is affiliated with Healthmark Regional Medical Center in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Healthmark Regional Medical Center is a general, short-term, acute care medical surgical hospital. Its personnel are trained and experienced caregivers. The mission of the Center is to provide comprehensive, quality health care services designed to meet the needs of individuals of all ages, regardless of race, creed, color, sex, handicap or national origin in a cost-efficient, safe manner; to promote excellence in the delivery of care and services through the proper utilization of resources, by competent practitioners, under the supervision of the patient’s physician; and to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of our community, including, but not limited to patients, families, physicians, and referral sources.

After earning his medical degree from the University of Siena Faculty of Medicine in 1972, Dr. Galard went on to complete his internship at Winthrop-University Hospital and his residency at the Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn & Queens.

Dr. Galard is a member of the Occupational Health and Safety Programs. Occupational Health and Safety Programs are designed to prevent injuries and occupational diseases. When effectively implemented, such programs facilitate open and productive discussion concerning health and safety issues in the workplace, as well as help to identify and correct unsafe work conditions or practices.

Dr. Galard attributes his success to his mother and older brother, who were teachers. He believes that everything starts with the heart and his ethics. In his spare time, Maurice enjoys running, preaching, doing martial arts, doing volunteer work, and spending time with his family. He and his wife have been married for over 40 years. 

Emergency medicine is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. Emergency medicine physicians care for unscheduled and undifferentiated patients of all ages.
