Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Wassim Mchayleh, who serves patients in Georgia.

Fluent in Arabic and French, Dr. Mchayleh is a board-certified hematologist-oncologist whose clinical interests include head, lung, and neck cancers. He has a strong commitment to treating each of his patients in a caring and loving environment as if they were a part of his own family.

The doctor can be found on staff at Georgia Cancer Specialists with office locations in Alpharetta and Center Pointe, Georgia. After earning his medical degree from St Joseph’s University Medical School, Dr. Mchayleh went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at George Washington University, followed by his fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In 2016, he obtained his Master of Business Administration degree in Healthcare Management from Ohio University. 

In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, he is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Hematology, and the Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology. What’s more, he is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In 2011, Dr. Mchayleh earned the Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Clinician and Scientist Award, as well as multiple ASCO Merit awards. He also received specialized training in the treatment of leukemia at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. 

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of blood diseases and cancers such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia, and lymphoma.
