  • Back and hip pain

More likely you are experiencing sciatica due to a pinched nerve in your low back. The most likely cause is a herniated disc. The herniated disc is putting pressure on the nerve and that has caused loss of muscle tone in your thigh and pain in your hip. You need an MRI of your low back to confirm the cause of your symptoms. Don’t wait because the nerve damage and muscle wasting can become permanent. READ MORE

  • Pain

Most back pain resolves within a few days. You say you’ve had pain now for 3 days and that it goes to your legs which is more concerning. If you haven’t tried Motrin or Alleve and Tylenol, give that a try for a couple days. If after that you’re still having pain, I suggest you see your doctor because you may have a disc herniatiion which is a fairly common cause of back and leg pain. An MRI would be the way to determine that. READ MORE

  • How long does a strained back take to heal?

If you truly have a strained back, it should take no more than a week or so to heal. Rest, gentle stretching exercises, Tylenol and an anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen will speed up the healing. A "strained back" means the muscles in the low back area have been overstretched. Most muscle stretch injuries heal fairly quickly and don't result in long term symptoms. Sometimes what is referred to as a strained back is actually an injury to other structures in the lower back, such as discs or joints. These injuries can take longer to heal and may cause recurrent episodes of back pain. If your symptoms linger or come back again and again, you may want to talk to your doctor to see if something else could be the cause. READ MORE

  • Neck spasms?

Your are having neck spasms. Neck spasms are usually due to irritation of the structures that make up your neck--the bones, ligaments, tendons, joints and discs. The muscles automatically tighten up to try to protect your neck from movements that your body perceives as irritating to those structures. Moist heat, anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, and rest usually help. If the symptoms persist, finding out if there is some underlying problem with the structures in your neck, is usually the next step. Sometimes a neck MRI is needed to make that determination, READ MORE

  • Do I have tendinosis?

That sounds like a long time for tendinosis to heal. You may want to have a doctor check you out to see if you truly have tendinosis. One condition that can cause pain in the back of the legs that will mimic tendinosis is sciatica. That is a condition where a nerve in the low back gets irritated, most often due to a disc bulge, resulting in pain that travels down the legs, usually one leg more than the other. The diagnosis can generally be made with a physical examination and possibly an MRI. READ MORE

  • What are the treatment options for scoliosis?

Treatment for scoliosis in adolescent aged children is divided into surgical and non-surgical treatment. The decision as to which treatment is most appropriate is based on the patient’s age, the severity of the curve, and whether or not the curvature is getting worse over time. Non-surgical care consists of simply monitoring the curve over time and getting X-rays every few months or treating with a brace. Exercises, chiropractic or medications generally have not been shown to change the outcome. Surgery generally involves fusion with the goal of straightening out the curve and preventing it from worsening in the future. READ MORE
