Get to know General & Bariatric Surgeon Dr. Jeremy P. Parcells, who serves patients in Mansfield, Texas.

Dr. Parcells is an experienced general, bariatric, and robotic-trained surgeon. He is a part of Surgical Associates of Mansfield, a multi-specialty surgery group to help patients with a wide range of health concerns by providing surgical treatment.

His hospital affiliations include Methodist Dallas Medical Center, Methodist Mansfield Medical Center, Methodist Charlton Medical Center, Methodist Richardson Medical Center, Methodist Midlothian Medical Center, Baylor Surgicare at Mansfield, USMD Hospital Arlington, and Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital.

In addition to bariatric surgery, Dr. Parcells performs a wide range of procedures including hernia, gallbladder, anti-reflux, colorectal, bariatric surgery, and a full range of complex laparoscopic and robotic surgeries performed through a much smaller incision and resulting in shorter recovery times, less risk of infection, less scarring, and less pain for his patients.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Parcells obtained his bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College in Illinois, where he graduated summa cum laude with a degree in biology, and then went to Baylor College of Medicine for his medical degree. He completed an internship in general surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and a residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He then went on to hone his craft with a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. It was here he discovered he had a passion for weight-loss surgery.

As a testament to his success, he is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix, and hernias. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.

Bariatric surgery includes a variety of procedures performed on people who are obese. Long-term weight loss through the standard of care procedures is largely achieved by altering gut hormone levels responsible for hunger and satiety, leading to a new hormonal weight set point. A medical professional specializing in this particular field is called a bariatric surgeon.

Happily married, Dr. Parcells and his wife, Carolyn, are raising two phenomenal boys in the South Arlington area. In their off time, they enjoy getting outside and going to Rangers games.
