Providing a full range of general surgical care for his patients, Dr. Alley is a reputable general surgeon whose main interests include emergency, laparoscopic, and hernia surgery. He can be found on staff at The University of Kansas Health System.

Professionally, he is also an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the General and Pediatric Surgery Division at the University of Kansas Medical Center, and is spearheading a new Emergency General Surgery Service at the Medical Center. 

A native Kansan, Dr. Alley joined the United States Army in 1991 after completing a few undergraduate years in college. Serving a total of ten years in the military, at the conclusion of the first four-year tour, he returned to college in 1995 at Pittsburg State University to complete his Bachelor of Science in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Physics. He attended medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and graduated with the class of 2002. After medical school, he also completed his general surgery training at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care. 

On a more personal note, Dr. Alley is married with four wonderful children (three girls and a boy). When he is not working, he enjoys skydiving, gourmet cooking, fine wines, and premium cigars.
