Get to know Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Dr. Sumru Bilge-Johnson, who serves patients in Akron, Ohio.

Recognized as an attentive and considerate child and adolescent psychiatrist, Dr. Bilge-Johnson works within the Lois and John Orr Family Behavioral Health Center in Akron, Ohio. It is a part of Akron Children’s Hospital.

In her current position, Dr. Bilge-Johnson also serves as the Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program at Akron Children’s Hospital, and as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Respected in her field, the doctor is board-certified in child & adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists. She is also a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Psychiatric Association.

A 1997 graduate of Istanbul University, Dr. Bilge-Johnson relocated to the United States to further her training. She served her residency in psychiatry at Northeast Ohio Medical University, followed by her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Akron Children’s Hospital before embarking on her professional journey.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.

In addition to English, Dr. Bilge-Johnson speaks Turkish.
