Being a board-certified internist, Dr. Keister provides primary care to adults, as well as consultations on a large number of medical problems. He is in practice with Amarillo Medical Specialists, LLP in Texas.

Amarillo Medical Specialists, LLP is the largest private practice internal medicine group in the Texas Panhandle. Focused on providing a patient-centered approach to care, the practice has the largest selection of adult primary care internal medicine physicians, kidney specialists, and diabetes/endocrinology specialists available in the Amarillo area.  

A native of Amarillo, Dr. Keister is a graduate of Amarillo High School. After graduating from Baylor University summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, he attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas, graduating in 1996 as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville and was later Chief Resident at St. Thomas Hospital.

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Professionally, Dr. Keister has served as an Editor of Panhandle Health Magazine, and as a member of the Medical Policy Committee and Diabetic Management Team at Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at Texas Tech Medical School in Amarillo.

Identifying a desperate need for healthcare throughout certain neighborhoods within Amarillo, Dr. Keister founded Heal the City. The mission of the free clinic is to provide free quality medical care and referral services with dignity and compassion to the uninsured of the community.
