“I’ve been a practicing medical oncologist for over 36 years, and the most gratifying work I have done is what I do in the rural hospital setting every week. Hardly a day goes by that a patient doesn’t thank me for not having to drive long distances to receive cancer care” expressed the doctor.
Graduating with the class of 1963 at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Dugan Jr. went on to further his studies. He performed his internship, residency in internal medicine, and fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the said establishment in 1964, 1967, and 1968, respectively.
A provider of educational programs to patients, families, physicians and nurses, he served as the co-founder and president of Community Cancer Care in Indianapolis, an assistant clinical professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and as the co-founder of the Quality of Life Foundation.
An active cancer researcher, Dr. Dugan Jr. is board-certified in medical oncology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Obtaining membership status, he is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Dugan was honored for his outstanding contributions made to health care in rural areas for over 23 years, and is the first specialist to win the award.
