Dr. Takahashi is a board-certified neurologist & neurointensivist with special interests in clinical stroke research, paroxysmal sympathetic hyperactivity, and traumatic brain injury.

Practicing at Boston Medical Center in Massachusetts, her administrative roles include Hospital Flow Director, Inpatient Medical Director of Neurology, and Neurocritical Care Fellowship Director. She also serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Takahashi obtained her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and her medical degree from the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her residency training in neurology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). 

After residency, she continued her fellowship training at OHSU. During her training, she also earned a Master in Clinical Research. 

An expert in her field, Dr. Takahashi is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.

Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.

Neurocritical care (or neurointensive care) is a medical field that treats life-threatening diseases of the nervous system and identifies, prevents, and treats secondary brain injury. A neurointensivist is a physician who cares for patients in the neurological ICU.

In 2018, Dr. Takahashi won the BUMG Clinical Excellence Award. Her research interests include perihematomal edema, nursing education, and quality improvement initiatives. She is particularly vested in finding ways to calculate perihematomal edema volumes.
