Get to know Dermatologist Dr. Mohiba K. Tareen, who serves patients in Minnesota.
Serving the entire St. Paul and Minneapolis area, Dr. Tareen is a nationally acclaimed, board-certified dermatologist. She is the Founder of Tareen Dermatology, providing the best quality care to her patients and treating them with compassion.
Bringing her East Coast expertise to the Twin Cities, she launched Tareen Dermatology in Roseville in 2011. Years later, in 2017, a second clinic was opened to serve Southern Minnesota in Faribault and also in Maplewood. In 2020, Dr. Tareen moved her original office across the street into her very own, brand new Roseville Health building! All 3 practice locations employ only the newest, state-of-the-art methods and procedures in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology to enhance the health and beauty of the skin. The facility offers procedures for skin cancer, acne, eczema, psoriasis, as well as aesthetic procedures. It is also one of the only practices in Minnesota that offers a painless skin cancer treatment called SRT.
In addition to seeing patients at her private practice, Dr. Tareen serves as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Minnesota, and as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Columbia University.
A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan, where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, she earned her medical degree at the University of Michigan and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She was awarded two prestigious scholarships while in medical school: The Glasgow-Rubin Award to the top 5 female graduates and the MAPI Award for the number one academic student of Indian descent.
Furthering her training, Dr. Tareen completed her residency in dermatology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, New York. During this time, she also lectured extensively and had her work published in a number of prestigious medical journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine. In addition, she was awarded the Conrad Stritzler Award of the New York Dermatological Society while a second-year resident.
Thereafter, she completed a prestigious fellowship in procedural dermatology where she specialized in advanced laser, surgery, and cosmetic dermatology. She subsequently practiced medical and cosmetic dermatology in Manhattan.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD), the doctor is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). The ABD is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.
Serving as the national expert dermatologist for WebMD, Dr. Tareen is frequently interviewed in the media for her clinical knowledge.
Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin, the largest organ of the body; a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects. A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases and deals with both internal and external causes and some cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include taking consultations, providing screening tests, and undertaking non-invasive surgical procedures.
With a sincere belief in giving back to the community, Dr. Tareen was awarded the United Way Youth Volunteer of the Year while in high school. In college and medical school, she spent considerable time at homeless shelters, low cost clinics, and on medical mission trips to India. In New York City and Minneapolis/St. Paul, she has volunteered her time seeing numerous dermatology patients without insurance.
Tareen Dermatology regularly gives back to the Minneapolis/ St Paul community. Dr. Tareen and her staff contribute both time and money to numerous local charities.
Happily married, she is blessed with four sons and one daughter. Her husband, Basir Tareen MD, is a urologist with Metro Urology in Woodbury.
