A 2005 graduate of the University of Saint Eustatius School of Medicine, Dr. Mekhaiel went on to perform his residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Advocate Christ Medical Center in 2008. He then furthered his training with a fellowship in pulmonary disease at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University in 2011, a fellowship in critical care medicine at Mayo Clinic in 2012, and a fellowship in pulmonary disease at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in 2014.
Board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonology disease, and critical care medicine, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
