  • He attributes his success to hard work, the desire, and the motivation and drive that he needed to attain his goal in becoming a dermatologist that cares deeply for his patients. He fell in love with science and research, which led him right into this field and studying different levels of skin cancer surgery and research. He was the first in his family to attend college and now his son is the second following in his father\'s footsteps.

Dr. Spencer received his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York City. He completed a fellowship in Mohs Surgery with Rex Amonette, MD, and has served as an assistant professor at the University of Miami and associate professor and vice chairman at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Most recently, he has been promoted to professor of clinical dermatology at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and has opened a private practice in St. Petersburg, Florida.

He currently practices with his private practice, Spencer Dermatology and Skin Surgery Center LLC and is affiliated with St. Anthony’s Hospital. He is certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology. The American Board of Dermatology exists to serve the public by setting high standards for dermatologists to earn and maintain Board certification. The American Board of Dermatology is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.

Dr. Spencer is active in the prevention, detection, and treatment of all types of skin cancer. He also has an active clinical and research interest in lasers and cosmetic therapies. Dr. Spencer is a frequent speaker, both nationally and internationally, on cutaneous oncology, as well as cosmetic therapies and lasers. In addition to maintaining a private practice, he is co-chairman of the National Council for Skin Cancer Prevention, past president of the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology & Aesthetic Surgery, a past member of the board of directors of the American Academy of Dermatology, and was previously a co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. Dr. Spencer is a co-editor of 1 book, author of 14 book chapters, and over 100 scientific publications.
