Dr. Meyer grew up in Chappaqua, New York and received his bachelor of arts in Biology at Yale University. After taking a year to work and travel, he attended Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. In his 4th year of medical school, Dr. Meyer did a fellowship in health care and human rights working with Tibetan refugees in the foothills of the Himalayans. He completed his general surgery residency training at the University of Cincinnati and during that time did research in the area of intestinal cytokine production and sepsis and also completed a fellowship in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation. Prior to moving to Austin, Texas, Dr. Meyer did his pediatric surgery fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Medical Center. Dr. Meyer joined Austin Pediatric Surgery in 2000 and has held many leadership positions at Dell Children's Medical Center including , Chairman of the Surgery Department, Chief of Staff, and Chairman of the Pediatric Leadership Board.
