Get to know Family Physician Dr. Derick Young, who serves patients in Texas.

Dr. Young, a board-certified family physician, serves as the Senior Medical Director at WellMed at Windcrest in San Antonio, Texas.

Locally, he is affiliated with Northeast Baptist Hospital and St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Young graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine in 1998, after which he performed his residency in family medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 1998 until 2001.

With years of experience to his credit, the doctor is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
