Maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) is a branch of medicine that focuses on managing complex health concerns of the mother and fetus prior to, during, and shortly after pregnancy. MFM specialists are physicians who subspecialize within the field of obstetrics and have advanced knowledge of medical, surgical, obstetric, fetal, and genetic complications of pregnancies.  For pregnant women with chronic health problems or pregnancies which carry high risk for moms and/or babies, they work to keep them as healthy as possible. They also care for women who face unexpected problems that develop during pregnancy such as early labor, bleeding or high blood pressure.
