Recognized as a skilled interventional cardiologist, Dr. Tahirkheli offers his services at Oklahoma Heart Hospital – North Campus & Oklahoma City – South MOB.

At Oklahoma Heart Hospital (OHH), patient care is at the heart of everything they do. This physician-owned hospital was designed by cardiologists to ensure that patients receive expert, individualized care with utmost comfort. OHH is the first of its kind in Oklahoma and the first all-digital hospital in the United States.

Among his academic career path, Dr. Tahirkheli graduated with his medical degree from Punjab University, Allama Iqbal Medical College in Pakistan in 1988. He then went on to perform his internships in general surgery and internal medicine at Allama Iqbal Medical College, after which he performed a residency in internal medicine and cardiology at Federal PostGraduate Medical Institute in 1992.

Upon relocating to the United States, Dr. Tahirkheli performed an internship in internal medicine at Gundersen Clinic in 1993, and a residency in internal medicine at Mayo Clinic – Rochester in 1995. Furthering his studies, he completed a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the University of Oklahoma in 1996, a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Mayo Clinic – Rochester in 1998, and a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Mayo Clinic – Rochester in 1999.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease medicine, and interventional cardiology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Interventional cardiology is the subspecialty of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter-based treatment of heart diseases. The field includes the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, vascular disease, and acquired structural heart disease. An interventional cardiologist is a cardiologist with one to two years of additional education and training in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease, as well as congenital and structural heart conditions through catheter-based procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting.
