Get to know Internist Dr. Surendra Marur, who serves patients in Towson, Maryland.

Dr. Marur is a skilled internist who serves as the Medical Director of the Anticoagulation Clinic at GBMC Healthcare in Towson, Maryland. His interests include preventive medicine, medical education, as well as health care management and policy.

The Anticoagulation Clinic at GBMC Healthcare provides education, blood testing and specialized monitoring, and medication management to patients taking blood-thinning medications. The goal of the Clinic is to provide quality, compassionate care and excellent service, leading to increased medication control and better outcomes.

Alongside his clinical role, Dr. Marur is the Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at GBMC Healthcare. It is located in GBMC’s Physicians Pavilion East in Suite 203 where attending physicians supervise a number of residents specializing in internal medicine, geriatrics, and infectious disease.

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Marur received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Michigan before traveling to India to complete his medical education at the Kasturba Medical College in Manipal. He then returned to the United States, completing his training in internal medicine at Wayne State University / DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital. 

He joined the Internal Medicine Residency faculty at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit where he also served as their Ambulatory Clinic Director and worked as a primary care physician. He completed his Master of Public Health degree at the University of Michigan during his tenure at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital. When he relocated to Maryland, he worked as a hospitalist at Frederick Memorial Hospital before joining the faculty at GBMC. 

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

Among his various accolades, Dr. Marur is the recipient of Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014), Patients’ Choice Award (2014, 2016), and On-Time Doctor Award (2014, 2016).
